With roots in Long Island, New York City, and Westchester, the Pandemics are a well-oiled machine with laser precision when it comes to putting out high energy ska music. A highly trained army of scene veterans and newcomers alike, with the one mission: To spread their infectious brand of Ska-Punk music the world over.
Having debuted in December 2010, The Pandemics have grown into a versatile group, incorporating the sounds and stylings of music that runs the gamut of ska music.
Started by Chris Malone (Trombone / Vocals) and Chris Chatterton (Lead Trumpet) in his basement, and shortly there after with James ‘Big Jim Slade’ Fulfaro (Bari Sax) the group quickly began to gel after just the first couple of sessions. Next came the addition of the band’s rhythm section with the addition of Brian “BKens” Kennedy (Guitar), Greg “G.A.” Steiner (Bass / Vocals) and CJ Dunaieff (Drums). After playing together for just a short time, the band knew they were on to something, but they were still missing that an x-factor of sorts that would set them above the rest… Enter Paul “Apollo” Chestnut (Alto & Tenor Saxophones) and slightly later, Chris “Da Man” Mandato and the rest is history!
In 2013 Chris Chatterton, now a married man, left the group and was succeeded by killer lead trumpeter Chris “Q” Quintero. Summer of 2014 also saw the departure of long time bassist, Greg Steiner. Enter the excellent bassist Will ‘Splashmaster” Harris to fill the void. Will would also go onto engineer The Pandemics following release at Sabella Studios that fall. Today the group continues to grow in stature, performing regularly in the New York tri-state area and beyond.
The Pandemics have toured through the mid-west and up and down the east coast. Along the way they have built up long list of notables with whom they’ve shared the stage. This amazing list of bands includes but is not limited to: The Toasters, The Slackers, Fishbone, Buster Poindexter, The English Beat, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (Japan), Mustard Plug, Ingrid Michaelson, Mephiskapheles, The Resignators (Australia) and many, many more. Furthermore, The Pandemics have served as the backing band to Two-Tone great Roderick “Roddy Radiation” Byers of the Specials (UK), Pete Cooper of The Poerks (Australia), as well as local Long Island favorite “Spider Nick” Martielli.
Their releases to date include the Patient Zero EP (2011) and Brain On Tap (2012), as well as numerous compilations such as, Altercation Records’ Blood Sweat and Punk (2012), the CDs For Sandy – Hurricane Sandy Relief Benefit compilation and the Asbestos Records Skalapalooza compilation.
